The importance of calcium and vitamin D in the human diet on bone health and strength from childhood to old age. Beneficial and potentially detrimental dietary factors are listed, together with sources of vitamin D and recommended values needed throughout life. Vitamin D deficiency, together with risk factors for osteoporosis and symptoms of rickets are described and recommendations to ensure adequate supply are included. 8 references.
