New occasional paper explores professional suitability. Occasional Papers provide an overview of current social policy and key literature on important topics for BAOT members.
'Professional Suitability' explores the concepts of professional suitability, good professional practice and professional unsuitability, showing how they are linked to professional standards and codes of practice. The paper also examines the problem of assessing professional suitability. This includes consideration of the criteria for professional suitability/unsuitability, procedures for assessment, methods of assessment and responses to evidence of professional unsuitability.

Masterclass Assessing and Treating Fatigue: skills and strategies for occupational therapy practice
23rd April 2010 at Hilton City Hotel, Leeds.
A masterclass aimed at occupational therapists from any clinical setting, who find that fatigue is a significant problem for their clients and who want to increase their knowledge, enhance their skills and develop this area of practice. Delegates will gain an increased understanding of fatigue and how to assess its impact upon daily life, learn fatigue management strategies and develop increased confidence in the management of fatigue.
Masterclass: Occupational Therapy for Adult Acquired Apraxia
5th May 2010 at East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham.
This Masterclass will provide an evidence-based review of occupational therapy for the assessment and treatment of adults with apraxia following stroke or brain injury. It is designed to enable OTs to enhance their skills and confidence in managing patients who present with apraxia in the early middle and late stages of treatment. The course is tailored to the needs of delegates, who will be asked to complete a pre-course questionnaire, and will provide an opportunity to share experiences and ask questions to an expert practitioner.

New bilingualism/stroke study
A new Wellcome Trust funded project aims to predict language recovery after stroke in bilingual speakers. University College London (UCL) researchers, led by Dr David Green and Professor Cathy Price, will use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, the Comprehensive Aphasia Test and parts of Michel Paradis’ Bilingual Aphasia Test (1989) to assess volunteers’ language skills in their best other language.
