Allied health professional data collection:
Subject to Review of Central Returns and Information Standards Board approval, the DH is committed to mandating the collection of data on referral to treatment times for services provided by Allied Health Professionals (AHPs).To enable timely access to quality services for patients, this letter explains how we are working with the NHS to support the delivery of this commitment.

Alice Cory Early Research Training Fellowship Scheme
Support for research training for GPs, Nurses and Allied Health Professionals:
The scheme is aimed at GPs, Nurses and Allied Health Professionals who wish to enrol on a full-time or part-time Masters Degree course containing a significant research component. A prior interest in research, for instance involvement in clinical trials or community based studies, would be desirable, but is not essential.

UK Occupational Therapy Research Foundation: Outcome measures and effective practice. This event is aimed at OTs and other AHPs who wish to develop their knowledge of outcome measures and effective practice. Participants will hear from several experts on how outcome measures can be used for practice, research, service evaluation and service commissioning purposes. Delegates will learn how to develop skills in selecting and appraising outcome measures and how using outcome measures will routinely demonstrate the effectiveness of their practice.

NHS staff passport launched
A ‘staff passport’ launched today will enshrine NHS physiotherapists and other NHS staff rights in England on transfer to new types of employers and set out the human resources standards they are entitled to expect wherever they work delivering NHS services.

Analysis of breast screening appointment lengths survey:
In August 2009, the Society of Radiographers (SoR) surveyed members carrying out breast screening in the UK about nominal appointment lengths. Over 200 respondents answered a range of questions in an online questionnaire about how much time they have per client, their workload and the effects of setting nominal appointment lengths.

An intervention review which examined trials for improvement in nutritional status and clinical outcomes when extra protein and energy were provided, usually as commercial 'sip-feeds'.
